Second Inversion

by Maggie Molloy

Composing music is a little bit like tending to a garden: you have to observe, shape, and nourish what grows. That’s how the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu described his work. He said he wanted his music to feel like walking through a garden—experiencing the changes in light, pattern, and texture. You can walk freely, take in the whole atmosphere, or pause to examine one single flower.

This Saturday on Second Inversion, we step inside Takemitsu’s garden, and explore how the natural world inspired many of his best-loved works.

To listen, tune in to Classical KING on Saturday, April 27 at 9pm PT.
