Bach to the Future Brings Live Classical Music to Seattle’s Light Rail Stations on July 25
July 20, 2026
Free live piano performances transform Beacon Hill and Roosevelt light rail stations into community concert spaces.
What if your commute included a live piano performance?
On Saturday, July 25, Seattle’s light rail stations will once again become concert halls as Bach to the Future returns to Beacon Hill and Roosevelt Light Rail Stations from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Presented by the Seattle Music Teachers Association (SMTA), this one-of-a-kind community event invites musicians of all ages to share classical music in one of the city’s most unexpected performance spaces. Throughout the day, pianists will perform for commuters, neighbors, families, and anyone passing through, transforming everyday travel into opportunities for discovery and connection.
Originally created as a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday, the event has grown into something even broader. Today, Bach to the Future celebrates the full spectrum of classical music—from Bach and Beethoven to today’s living composers—bringing live performances directly into the heart of Seattle’s communities.
Leading this year’s event are Co-Chairs GraceANN Cummings and Karin McCullough, NCTM, whose volunteer leadership has helped make Bach to the Future a beloved annual tradition.
The event is made possible through the collaboration of several dedicated community partners.
The Seattle Music Teachers Association, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing music education and supporting teachers and students throughout Washington, serves as the presenting organization and provides the volunteer leadership that has sustained the event for more than a decade.
A special thank you goes to Classic Pianos, whose generosity makes the performances possible by providing the pianos, coordinating their delivery, and supporting the logistical requirements needed to bring live music into Sound Transit stations. Their longstanding commitment has become an essential part of Bach to the Future’s success.
The event is presented in partnership with Sound Transit, whose collaboration allows these public spaces to become places of music, creativity, and community.
As a community media partner, Classical KING is proud to help share this event with listeners throughout the Puget Sound region. Bach to the Future embodies the belief that classical music belongs everywhere; it belongs not only in concert halls, but also in the places where people live, work, and travel every day.
Whether you’re planning to spend the day exploring performances or simply passing through on your way somewhere else, you may find yourself surprised by a beautiful moment of live music waiting just around the corner.
