Welcome to another week at Classical KING, where we bring you the best in classical music, both from our local community and from the world’s most prestigious stages. Here’s what we have lined up for you this week 

On-Air Highlights 

Northwest Focus Live

Date: Friday, February 28, 2025 7:00pm 

Host: Sean MacLean 

Featured Guests: Seattle Pro Musica 

We’re thrilled to welcome Seattle Pro Musica back to the Classical KING studios! This award-winning choral ensemble has spent over 50 years promoting equal access, inclusion, and justice through the arts. They have captivated audiences with their rich harmonies and diverse repertoire, from Renaissance to contemporary choral music. With performances alongside Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and the Seattle Symphony, their musical excellence is undeniable. Tune in for an unforgettable choral performance on Northwest Focus Live as they present a selection of stunning vocal works and we hear from artistic director and conductor, Karen P. Thomas.

 

The Metropolitan Opera 

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025, 10am

Performance: Bizet Carmen 

The Met celebrates the 150th anniversary of Bizet’s Carmen, an opera that scandalized audiences at its premiere but has since become one of the most beloved in the world. This gripping drama follows the fiery, free-spirited Carmen, her lover Don José, and the inevitable consequences of jealousy and passion. Enjoy timeless arias such as the Habanera, Seguidilla, and the Toreador Song in this outstanding performance from January 16, 2010, featuring a world-class cast Conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin

The Score with Edmund Stone  

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025, 4pm 

What if you could give out your own film awards? Join Edmund Stone as he presents the quirkiest categories you’ll never see at the Oscars, including Worst Monster Makeup, Best Maniacal Laugh, and Absolutely Awful Movie Sequels. Tune in for a mix of great film scores and lighthearted fun! 

Date: Sunday, March 2, 2025, 4pm

Now that the Oscars are over, it’s time for something even more fun! The Edmunds continue with categories like Worst Accent, Best Use of Vegetables in a Movie, and Best On-Screen Character Conversion. Tune in for another round of film music and awards that celebrate the movies in a whole new way. 

 

Second Inversion: Late-Night Happy Hour

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025, 9pm

Host: Maggie Molloy 

What’s better than a refreshing drink and a soundtrack to match? Second Inversion invites you to unwind with an hour of music inspired by salty snacks, strong drinks, and late nights at the pub. This unique program features lively and eclectic sounds that set the perfect tone for a relaxed Saturday night. Sit back, pour yourself something nice, and enjoy this Late-Night Happy Hour on Second Inversion.

 

 

Northwest Focus Concert Calendar Highlights

 

Salish Sea Early Music Festival: The Chaconne with Les Voix Humaines 

Date: Thursday, February 27, 2025, 7:30pm

Location: Faith Lutheran Church, Seattle 

Les Voix Humaines, the celebrated Montreal viol duo, joins the Salish Sea Early Music Festival for a program highlighting the chaconne from the 17th century through J.S. Bach. Their period instrument performance brings history to life, offering a rare chance to experience these timeless works as they were originally intended. Eleven performances will take place around the Puget Sound through March 1st. 

St. James Cathedral: Music for Hands, Head, & Heart 

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025, 8pm

Location: St. James Cathedral, Seattle 

Baroque violinist Tekla Cunningham invites audiences into the world of Heinrich Biber and his 17th-century contemporaries. The program features works that demand technical brilliance and emotional depth, performed on two rare and exquisite 18th-century violins. This concert is a must for fans of historically informed performance and baroque music lovers alike. 

Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra: Rossini, Strauss, Wagner & Bernstein 

Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025, 7:30pm

Location: Town Hall Seattle 

Experience Forbidden Romance, a concert celebrating musical passion and drama. The Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra will present selections from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Wagner’s Die Meistersinger, and Bernstein’s West Side Story. The evening will also feature oboist Adam Parnell in a breathtaking performance of Strauss’ Oboe Concerto.
