On-Air Highlights 

Music Feature: Lunar New Year 

Date: Wednesday, January 29, 2025, All Day 

This Lunar New Year, Classical KING honors the traditions, family, and cultural richness of Asia. Join us throughout the day as we feature music that celebrates the spirit of renewal and good fortune. Music plays a pivotal role in Lunar New Year celebrations, and we’re excited to share these sounds with you. 

Seattle Chamber Music Society Winter Festival Broadcast 

Date: Friday, January 31, 2025, 7:30pm 

Experience the magic of chamber music with the Seattle Chamber Music Society’s Winter Festival. Host Sean MacLean will guide you through an evening featuring Bela Bartok’s Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion and George Enescu’s Octet for Strings. A special intermission interview with pianist Orion Weiss adds an insightful layer to your listening. 

Metropolitan Opera 

Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025, 10am 

Revel in the tragic beauty of Verdi’s La Traviata, brought to life by the stunning Renee Fleming. This MET opera production captures the depth of an ultimate opera heroine’s self-sacrifice. Tune in for a morning filled with sublime music and powerful storytelling.

The Score with Edmund Stone 

Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025, 4pm 

Join us for a celebration of Black History Month with a special conversation between Edmund Stone and Terrence Blanchard, exploring his impactful scores for films like Da 5 Bloods and The Woman King. 

Date: Sunday, February 2, 2025, 4pm 

Dive into the theme of timeloops with Edmund Stone as he explores films that play with the concept of time travel and repeating histories in History Repeats Itself: Timeloops, featuring movies like Groundhog Day and Edge of Tomorrow. 

 

Second Inversion: Whirlwind 

Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025, 9pm 

Join Maggie Molloy for an episode of Second Inversion themed around the unpredictable and elemental nature of wind. From storms to whimsical breezes that take us to unexpected places, this program promises an auditory exploration like no other. 

Northwest Focus Concert Calendar Highlights 

North Corner Chamber Orchestra: Illuminate 

Date: Saturday, February 1, 2025, 2pm

Location: Town Hall Seattle 

Experience Shakespeare’s magical forest through Mendelssohn’s enchanting overture to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” alongside other captivating works performed by the North Corner Chamber Orchestra. 

Music Center of the Northwest: Trios by French Composers 

Date: Sunday, February 2, 2025, 1pm 

Location: Music Center of the Northwest 

Explore the evolution of French chamber music through contrasting trios for flute, cello, and piano, featuring compositions separated by a century yet connected by their elegance and expressiveness. 

The Washington Wind Symphony: Post-Modern Steampunk 

Date: Sunday, February 2, 2025, 2pm 

Location: Robertson Performing Arts Center, Redmond 

Delve into a steampunk-inspired concert that blends historical and futuristic sounds, showcasing pieces like William Bolcom’s Machine and Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F.
