Northwest Focus Live highlights exceptional artists with ties to the Pacific Northwest, and this week features Ballard-born ensemble Splinter Percussion. Alongside familiar instruments like triangle and tambourine, Splinter Percussion incorporates unexpected sounds—flower pots, copper pipes, even a mailbox—to create a vibrant and inventive chamber music experience. Based in Seattle, the group is dedicated to making percussion music more accessible and community-driven.

Northwest Symphony Orchestra | Crescendo: A Symphonic Celebration of Washington Landscapes

Auburn Symphony Orchestra Chamber Series: Old & New

Saturday, April 25 | 7pm | Postmark Center for the Arts  

An intimate chamber program exploring connections across centuries, featuring works by Bach and Quantz alongside 20th-century and contemporary pieces. Performed by four Northwest musicians, the program blends baroque elegance with modern perspectives through music for flute, oboe, cello, and harpsichord. 

Seattle Classic Guitar Society: A to Z Guitar Duo

Saturday, April 25 | 7:30pm | Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall 

An evening showcasing the virtuosity and expressive range of the classical guitar, featuring internationally acclaimed duo Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukic. The program spans Spanish classics to contemporary works by Piazzolla, Albéniz, Rodrigo, Assad, and more. 

Thalia Symphony: Tempest Tossed

Sunday, April 26 | 2pm | The Great Hall at Town Hall Seattle 

A program inspired by themes of resilience and freedom, featuring music inspired by the words of the Statue of Liberty. Works include Weber’s Overture to Oberon, Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge, and Nielsen’s Symphony No. 5, performed by one of Seattle’s longest-standing community orchestras.

Contemporary films shot in black and white are some of the finest entertainment in cinema. Join Edmund Stone as he explores the music that accompanies these gorgeous movies including Schindler’s List, Passing, The Elephant Man, and more. It’s a study in contrasts, this Saturday on the Score.  

Great Detectives 

Sunday, April 26 | 4pm  

If you love a mystery, this week’s Score is for you as host Edmund Stone matches music with the wit and wile of Great Detectives. Hunt hounds with Holmes in the Baskervilles, solve murder on the Orient Express, find the Maltese Falcon with Sam Spade, use detective tech with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. All this mystery and mayhem this Sunday on The Score.
