Turn up the color, rhythm, and energy this week as Classical KING celebrates the music of Brazil! Hear Brazilian composers, performers, and conductors throughout the week as we explore the country’s rich musical heritage and lasting influence on the classical tradition. The celebration leads up to Seattle Center’s BrasilFest on Sunday, August 16, where live music, dance, and more bring Brazilian arts and culture to the heart of Seattle.

The Compline Choir 70th Anniversary

Sunday, August 16 | 9:30pm

Celebrate The Compline Choir’s 70th Anniversary and one of Seattle’s most cherished musical traditions. The evening begins at 9pm with a half-hour of Compline Choir recordings, followed by a live anniversary service at 9:30pm from Saint Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral. Afterward, The Organ Loft continues the celebration with Roger Sherman and Peter Hallock’s Annotated Compline recording.

Listen Live at Lunch: Kristina Pelechová Henckel & Amanda Virelles, piano

Spend your lunch hour with four hands at the piano as Kristina Pelechová Henckel and Amanda Virelles perform a free recital as part of Tacoma’s Listen Live at Lunch series. The duo brings together two internationally trained pianists whose careers span solo performance, chamber music, and teaching.

Key to Change Summer Community Concert

Saturday, August 15 | 12pm | Key to Change Studio, Renton

Celebrate the next generation of young musicians as Key to Change students take the stage for their Summer Community Concert. This free performance marks the end of the summer term, showcasing the students’ progress after weeks of study and practice, followed by a reception with the young musicians, their families, and the Key to Change community.

Percussion on the Rock: Festival of Global Music Concert

Saturday, August 15 | 1pm | Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor

Explore a world of rhythm as Percussion on the Rock brings together percussionists Mark Allen Stone, James Culley, Patrick Roulet, Erica Montgomery, and Roger Braun for a program featuring works by Carlos Chávez, Andy Akiho, and John Cage. Presented in a workshop format, the concert explores percussion traditions and techniques while celebrating music and culture from around the globe.

Flutes in the Forest: IvoryRose

Saturday, August 15 | 3pm | Schmitz Preserve Park, Seattle

Take a walk in the woods with live music as flute and piano duo IvoryRose performs an outdoor concert in Schmitz Preserve Park. Featuring Jennie Goldberg and Nancy Kubo, the program begins with the family-friendly Luna’s Magic Flute before exploring music from Bach to contemporary composers including John Rutter, Herman Beeftink, and Mel Bonis, all surrounded by the beauty of the forest.

The Score with Edmund Stone  

A Dog’s Life

Saturday, August 15 | 4pm  

Join the pack and take a walk with Edmund Stone as he brings you music from films about our best friends in A Dogs Life. Canine companions from The Call of the Wild, The Secret Life of Pets, The Peanuts Movie and As Good as it Gets will make you laugh, smile and perhaps even wipe away a tear or two. This Sunday on The Score. 

Fantastic Flora

Sunday, August 16 | 4pm  

Do you talk to your plants? You just might, after the next episode of The Score. Edmund Stone “branches out” with a show that’s all about sentient plants. From Audrey of The Little Shop of Horrors to that Guardian of the Galaxy Groot, to the Ents of Fangorn Forest in The Lord of the Rings, it’s a show filled with Fantastic Flora,  “rooted” in myth and mystery, all set to fantastic film music.
