Second Inversion 

Florence Price 

Saturday, June 14 | 9pm 

Host: Maggie Molloy 

In the 1930s, Florence Price became the first African American woman to have her music performed by a major U.S. orchestra. She took pride in her identity: her music was deeply rooted in African American spirituals and folksongs, and in the lived experiences of her community.  This Saturday on Second Inversion, we’ll hear how Price’s music was shaped by the spirituals that so captured her heart. Plus, a newly discovered concerto that was almost lost to history.

Dig It! Archeology in Movies 

Saturday, June 14 | 4pm 

This Saturday on The Score, Edmund Stone is digging into archeology with movies such as Lost City of Zed, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ammonite and a bit more down-to-earth with an exclusive conversation with Sir Tony Robinson of Time Team fame. Get ready for a musical archeological dig, this Saturday on The Score. 

 

Shot on Location at UNESCO Sites 

Sunday, June 15 | 4pm 

They are places of outstanding universal value, examples of human genius, cultural traditions, or superlative natural phenomena or beauty – they are UNESCO World Heritage sites. This Sunday, Edmund Stone visits some of the world’s most spectacular locations with the music of films shot at UNESCO sites. From the glorious Taj Mahal in Slumdog Millionaire to the breath-taking Antelope Canyon in The Tree of Life, and the Galapagos Islands in Master and Commander, movies filled with some of the most outstanding human creations and natural backdrops in the world.

Join recent NWFL guest Seattle Girls Choir for a concert featuring over 1,000 years of music by women composers and a world premiere from PNW composer Joan Szymko.
