A new week of music on Classical KING! Join us to celebrate the influence of folk traditions on our genre on-air, in local concerts, and in a new episode of Second Inversion. Plus, a vegetal new episode of The Score and a Met Opera premiere!

Northwest Focus Live 

Friday, May 23 | 7pm 

Host: Lisa Bergman 

The next generation of musicians joins host Lisa Bergman this Friday on Northwest Focus Live. Featuring a program of exclusively women composers, tune in to hear Seattle Girls Choir’s advanced ensemble, Prime Voci, led by Artistic Director Sarra Doyle.  

 

Northwest Focus Concert Calendar 

Elektra: Legacy 

Sunday, May 25 at 3pm | Good Shepard Church, Surrey, BC 

Vancouver’s renowned adult treble choir, Elektra, takes the stage in an all-Canadian program of works commissioned by Elektra, including three premieres. 

 

Vashon Opera: Falstaff 

Friday, May 23 at 7:30pm and Sunday, May 25th at 2:30pm | Vashon Center for the Arts 

Recent and favorite Northwest Focus Live guests take stage for two performances of Verdi’s final opera. A wealthy knight tries to pay of his debts by romancing not one, but two wealthy married women in a scheme bound to go awry. 

 

Early Music Seattle at the Northwest Folklife Festival 

Saturday, May 24 at 6:45p and 8pm, and Sunday, May 25 at 8pm | Seattle Center 

Three unique performances featuring classical guitar, voice, and Persian classical music this weekend from Early Music Seattle. Celebrate the influence of folk music in classical with these performances and more at the 54th annual Northwest Folklife Festival at Seattle Center.

Metropolitan Opera Broadcast 

Adams: Antony and Cleopatra 

Saturday, May 15 | 10am 

The most recent opera by American composer John Adams gets its Met Opera premiere this Saturday under Adams own baton. A new adaptation of a classic Shakespeare drama, Antony and Cleopatra tells the story of a legendary romance between a Roman general and the last queen of Egypt. 

 

The Score with Edmund Stone 

Farmers Market 

Saturday, May 24 | 4pm 

Get away from the chaos with a mood-enhancing virtual visit to the farmer’s market. This Saturday on the Score Edmund Stone brings you a basket full of music from films including The Secret Life of Pets 2, Babe, Food Inc. and more. 

 

Well Grounded 

Sunday, May 25 | 4pm 

They’re not afraid to dig in and get their hands dirty – they’re botanists! These unsung heroes are the science behind the soil, the people behind the plants and they play an integral role in lots of films. Join Edmund Stone for a hands-on adventure in science and fiction with great characters such as astro-botanist Mark Watney in The Martian, Dr. Ellie Sattler from Jurassic Park, and The Lorax as the Guardian of the Environment. 

 

Second Inversion 

Music of the People 

Saturday, May 25 | 9pm 

Host: Maggie Molloy 

This Saturday on Second Inversion: Music of the People! We’ll hear folk music from around the world. From the vibrant rhythms of Peru to the treasured melodies passed down from generation to generation through the women of Haiti. Plus, a piano from Zimbabwe that can fit in your hands!
