Be a Part of Unmute the Voices

Submit your recordings for consideration, and they might be included in Unmute The Voices

Music featured on Unmute The Voices is…

  • Classical music written by composers of color (performed by anyone)
  • AND recordings (of music by any classical composer) by artists of color

Unmute The Voices seeks to elevate classical artists of color and music written by composers of color. So, if you’re a classical artist of color or a classical performer who has recorded music by composers of color, we want to hear from you!

If you would like to submit recordings for consideration to Unmute The Voices, please do so in one of the following two ways:

  1. Use WeTransfer to send high-quality audio files (lossless or CD-quality audio, please) and a short description, artist statement, and/or bio, to UTVSubmissions@king.org. WeTransfer allows users to send up to 2GB of data without an account.

OR

  1. Send an email to UTVSubmissions@king.org with links to recordings of your work, along with any relevant descriptions of the recordings, and a short artist’s statement or bio. Please be advised that if you submit via email, and your recordings are selected for inclusion in Unmute The Voices, you will likely be required to share high-quality audio files at a later time (producers need audio files to create the show).

Before you submit, please read these notices about the production timeline, music rights, and permissions:

  • Unmute The Voices cannot promise that your submitted recordings will be featured in any way, or that featured recordings will be included in specific episodes of the show. Because of production timelines, any recordings received will not be eligible for inclusion in episodes airing less than 8 weeks before submission date.
  • In many cases, you need not own all rights to recordings to submit them to Unmute The Voices. In fact, almost all commercial classical recordings are usable by Unmute The Voices with no rights clearances required, because the program airs on public radio stations and, therefore, all “public performances” of music on the program are covered by the “statutory license” granted by the CPB to public radio stations in the United States.
  • By submitting non-commercial recordings to Unmute The Voices via one of the above methods, you certify that you, or another entity on whose behalf you are acting, have/has the authority to grant Unmute The Voices and Classical KING FM permission to include the recordings in broadcast (and non-interactive streaming simulcast) radio episodes of Unmute The Voices and that you grant Unmute The Voices and Classical KING FM the rights to do so.
  • Your submission of a recording (commercial or non-commercial) DOES NOT grant Unmute The Voices or KING FM mechanical or synchronization rights, and therefore, any material you submit cannot be included in a podcast or video before those rights are secured from all involved parties and/or your additional consent.
