November 5, 2026

Classical KING has released its 2026 Annual Report, marking a remarkable year of transition, resilience, and community impact. The report reflects the station’s first full year as a 100% community-supported organization and highlights the listeners, donors, artists, volunteers, and partners who helped make that achievement possible.

A Community That Stepped Forward

When federal funding for public broadcasting was eliminated, Classical KING faced a defining moment. Rather than scaling back its commitment to serving listeners throughout the Pacific Northwest, the station turned to the community that has supported its mission for generations. The response was extraordinary.

During fiscal year 2026, Classical KING welcomed 1,701 new donors and celebrated more than 4,248 supporters who increased their giving. Today, individual philanthropy provides more than 90% of the station’s funding, helping build a sustainable future as Classical KING continues operating as a fully community-supported organization.

Behind those numbers are thousands of people who believe classical music deserves a strong future in the Pacific Northwest. Their generosity allowed the station to maintain programming, continue serving listeners, and move forward with confidence during a period of significant change.

Supporting the Region’s Arts and Culture

Community support makes it possible for Classical KING to do more than broadcast music. It allows the station to connect audiences with artists, performances, and cultural experiences throughout the region.

The Annual Report highlights partnerships and events that strengthen the Pacific Northwest’s classical music community, including the Seattle Sings Choral Festival, the nation’s largest gathering of choral singers. Bringing together more than 100 choirs and 6,300 singers, the festival reflects the spirit of participation and connection that Classical KING works to foster through its media partnerships and community engagement.

The report also reflects a year of live music and local storytelling. Classical KING aired 110 live performances and nearly 5,000 hours of live-hosted programming while continuing to shine a spotlight on regional artists and arts organizations. Through Northwest Focus Live broadcasts, community events such as Seattle Center Classical, and partnerships across the arts sector, the station continues to bring listeners closer to the people and performances that define the region’s cultural landscape.

Looking Ahead

The year also marked an important leadership transition. Following the retirement of former CEO Brenda Barnes, the Board appointed Rob Wiseman as the organization’s new CEO. To honor Barnes’ legacy of innovation and audience development, Classical KING established the Barnes Research & Innovation Fund, which will support future research, experimentation, and growth initiatives.

As Classical KING looks ahead, the focus remains on expanding access to classical music, strengthening connections with listeners, and reaching new audiences through both traditional broadcasting and digital platforms. The 2026 Annual Report reflects more than a successful year. It is a reminder of what is possible when a community comes together to ensure classical music continues to thrive.
