Classical KING Joins Seattle Center’s Movies at the Mural for a Special Screening of Coco

August 13, 2026

Through music, storytelling, and community connection, Classical KING is proud to partner with Seattle Center for an evening that celebrates the power of cultural traditions and shared experiences.

Seattle summers are made for gathering outdoors, and this season, Classical KING is joining Seattle Center’s Movies at the Mural presented by Prime Video for a special community screening of Disney and Pixar’s Coco.

As a sponsor partner for the event, Classical KING will help welcome audiences to one of Seattle’s favorite summer traditions, bringing music, conversation, and community engagement to a free public event that is expected to draw hundreds of attendees.

More than just a movie night, the partnership offers an opportunity to connect the film’s musical themes and cultural traditions with the vibrant musical life of our region.

Celebrating the Music Behind the Story

Before the film begins, Classical KING evening host Sean McLean will take the stage for a brief introduction exploring the music of Coco and the important role music plays in preserving memory, identity, and cultural heritage.

Introduced by event emcee Ellen, Sean will share a few reflections to help audiences listen in a new way before the film starts.

This short welcome is designed to enrich the experience while highlighting the powerful connections between music, storytelling, and community.

Connecting Audiences to Live Music

The evening will also offer an opportunity to introduce audiences to another upcoming cultural experience in the Pacific Northwest.

Classical KING will spotlight a September performance presented by Orquesta Northwest that celebrates Mexican musical traditions, inviting moviegoers to continue their journey from the world of Coco into a live musical experience. By connecting a beloved film to a local performance opportunity, the partnership helps audiences discover new ways to engage with music and culture throughout the year.

Continuing the Journey Through Music, Culture, and Community

The connections between Coco, music, and cultural tradition don’t end when the credits roll.

Classical KING will highlight opportunities for audiences to experience these traditions through live performances and community arts experiences happening throughout the Seattle region. Among them is the upcoming season from Orquesta Northwest, a local orchestra dedicated to celebrating the rich musical traditions of Mexico, Latin America, and beyond. For audiences inspired by the music featured in Coco, Orquesta Northwest offers a chance to experience many of those musical influences performed live by local musicians. Their opening concert of the season is on September 13th at Town Hall in Seattle.

Seattle Opera will also join Classical KING at the event, helping connect moviegoers with future arts experiences, including its upcoming production of El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego. Inspired by the lives and artistic legacy of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, the opera explores themes of memory, love, and cultural identity that resonate with many of the same traditions celebrated in Coco.

Visitors to the Classical KING table can learn more about both organizations’ upcoming programs, pick up information about future performances, and participate in family-friendly activities inspired by Día de los Muertos traditions. Seattle Opera will also provide a marigold-themed craft activity, while a pair of tickets to El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego will be featured as a special prize during Classical KING’s movie trivia activities.

By bringing together film, music, opera, and community arts organizations, the evening offers audiences multiple pathways to continue exploring the traditions, stories, and sounds that make Coco such a meaningful cultural experience.

For those inspired by the music, traditions, and themes of Coco, Seattle Opera’s upcoming Open House offers another opportunity to explore Mexican culture through the arts. Visitors can learn more about the opera El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, enjoy family-friendly activities, and discover how music, storytelling, and visual art continue to celebrate the rich cultural heritage reflected in both the film and Seattle Opera’s upcoming programming.

A Night of Community and Discovery

In addition to on-air promotion leading up to the screening, Classical KING will bring a visible presence to the event through audience engagement activities and film trivia prizes.

Free public events like Movies at the Mural create opportunities for people from across the region to gather, share experiences, and discover something new together. Classical KING is honored to be part of an evening that celebrates creativity, community, and the enduring power of music.
