Community truly means a lot to us, so we also want to thank Ben Dutton for the image we’ve used here. As a community-supported nonprofit we do everything we can to be responsible with your money. Community-minded people like Ben and services like Unsplash help keep our costs down and we really appreciate that.

Hello! If you’re a regular listener you’ve surely noticed the programming changes in recent years as we’ve highlighted brilliant women and composers and performers of color. This work gave us a new mission: change the way people perceive classical music.

Let’s be honest we know some people think of classical music as stodgy old white guy music. But we know it’s more than that, and we aim to celebrate everyone’s long-time favorites alongside the incredible diversity that’s been largely invisible until recently. Together we can share with our whole community what we value in classical music: relaxation, focus, and an appreciation for aesthetic beauty.

We’re going to show up for you, and we hope you’ll show up for us. You can come as you are, in your pajamas, or in a tuxedo. You can come with a lifelong love of this music, or just because one song touched you and you’re seeking ways to continue that feeling. There’s no quiz, no knowledge needed. Just listen and we’ll do our best to carry you on your classical music journey from wherever you’re starting, whether it’s a greater appreciation for the stories behind composers you already know and love, or discovering something new.

So new mission = new look. If we’re shaking off the perception of classical music as old and stodgy, then we’re shaking off the old logo in favor of something we hope provides the spirit of welcome we’re extending to our entire community. Yes, including you in the pajamas who just really likes that one piece of music and hopes to find another like it.

We worked closely with Henry Yiu, Principal & Creative Director at States of Matter to create this dynamic little bird (or is it a musical note, or something else–what do you see?) to sing us all into this new era at Classical KING. We can’t say enough nice things about Henry and this process. He truly helped us see our way to where we needed to be, and we’re so thrilled with results of his hard work.

Classical KING!? Hey where did the FM go? We’re glad you asked. We’ll always be here for you on the radio, but the world is changing and we’re along for that ride, embracing streaming, and social media as we expand. We said we wanted to meet you wherever you are, so we’re going to all those places to make the best experience for you possible.

Over the coming days and months, we’ll be rolling out the new look across all our platforms, but your ears will still find the same quality programming. Our station was founded with the intent of giving everyone in the region an opportunity to make classical music and the arts a part of their daily life. Come spend part of your life with us, we’ll scoot over and make space for you.

You can find more information about Classical KING’s work on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging here.

Classical KING is here for everyone in our community to enjoy. However, as a listener-support station we rely on donors to help us bring classical music to all who want it. If you can help now, during our Fall Fund Drive, we will invest your gift in programs that are captivating and informative, and nurture a love of classical music while keeping our community connected.
