This week’s performance welcomes back a beloved Northwest Focus Live regular, the Northwest Edvard Grieg Society! Highlighting the bicentennial of the first wave of Norwegian immigrants, this program will feature long-forgotten songs for violin, piano, and voice. Classical KING’s Broadcast Concerts

Host: Dave Beck
Rollicking piano themes meet a symphony of epic proportions during this Friday’s Broadcast Concert on Classical KING. Featuring our community’s own Seattle Symphony, join host Dave Beck as pianist extraordinaire Benjamin Grosvenor tackles Britten’s Piano Concerto before a riveting performance of Mahler’s First Symphony, the aptly nicknamed “Titan.” All this, under the baton of Seattle-debuting conductor Nicholas Carter. Dave Beck is your host this Friday, May 2nd at 8pm on Classical KING.

You’ve seen them in movies, and this week on The Score we’re going to go behind the microphone and take a listen to great actors who are also great voice actors. James Earl Jones will send shivers down your spine in Star Wars. Robin Williams melts hearts and delivers non-stop fun in Mrs. Doubtfire. Julie Andrews voices a ferocious sea monster in Aquaman, and more.

This Saturday on Second Inversion: Music for Meditation. We’ll hear introspective sounds from the Pacific Northwest and around the world. From the resonant gamelan ensembles of Indonesia to the hypnotic ragas of Hindustani classical music. Plus, a deep listening exercise from the mossy green depths of the Olympic Peninsula.
