Welcome back to another week of inspiring and calming music on Classical KING! This week, we’re looking forward to exciting live performances on and off air, a titanic broadcast concert, and a meditative new episode of Second Inversion. Northwest Focus LIVE 

Friday, May 2 | 7pm 

Host: Sean McLean 

This week’s performance welcomes back a beloved Northwest Focus Live regular, the Northwest Edvard Grieg Society! Highlighting the bicentennial of the first wave of Norwegian immigrants, this program will feature long-forgotten songs for violin, piano, and voice. Sean MacLean is your host this Friday, May 2nd at 7pm on Northwest Focus Live.   

 

Classical KING’s Broadcast Concerts 

Friday, May 2 | 8pm 

Host: Dave Beck 

Rollicking piano themes meet a symphony of epic proportions during this Friday’s Broadcast Concert on Classical KING. Featuring our community’s own Seattle Symphony, join host Dave Beck as pianist extraordinaire Benjamin Grosvenor tackles Britten’s Piano Concerto before a riveting performance of Mahler’s First Symphony, the aptly nicknamed “Titan.” All this, under the baton of Seattle-debuting conductor Nicholas Carter. Dave Beck is your host this Friday, May 2nd at 8pm on Classical KING. 

 

Northwest Focus Concert Calendar 

South Sound Classical Choir – Spring Concert 

Friday, May 2 | 7pm | Mount Tahoma High School,  Tacoma 

The South Sound Classical Choir invites you to their spring concert, featuring timeless classics from Bach, Faure, and Puccini, as well as some new favorites from Morten Lauridsen and more! 

 

Ladies Musical Club: Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Piano Trios by Haydn and Higdon 

Friday, May 2 | 7:30pm | Music Center of the Northwest, Seattle  

Seattle’s oldest musical organization, The Ladies Musical Club, invites you to an evening of piano trios from Joseph Haydn and Jennifer Higdon, as well as Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures. 

 

Seattle Wind Symphony: Celebrations 

Saturday, May 3 | 7:30pm | Shorewood Performing Arts Center, Shoreline  

The PNW’s premier wind band, the Seattle Wind Symphony invites you to an evening of global wind band music that celebrates land, country, ceremony, and dance.

Metropolitan Opera Broadcast 

Saturday, May 3 | 10am 

Verdi’s charged drama of forbidden love and family strife takes the stage on air this week at Classical KING. A tale of a bold troubadour unknowingly at war with his own brother, the Met Opera brings Il Trovatore live to you on Classical KING this Saturday, May 3rd at 10am. 

 

The Score with Edmund Stone 

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! 

Saturday, May 3 | 4pm 

Edmund Stone has a musical fiesta of music that celebrate Latinx culture in the movies including Coco, Nacho Libre, Like Water for Chocolate and more. It’s Feliz Cinco de Mayo! 

 

Now You See Them, Now You Don’t 

Sunday, May 4 | 4pm 

You’ve seen them in movies, and this week on The Score we’re going to go behind the microphone and take a listen to great actors who are also great voice actors. James Earl Jones will send shivers down your spine in Star Wars. Robin Williams melts hearts and delivers non-stop fun in Mrs. Doubtfire. Julie Andrews voices a ferocious sea monster in Aquaman, and more. 

 

Second Inversion 

Music for Meditation 

Saturday, May 3 | 9pm 

Host: Maggie Molloy 

This Saturday on Second Inversion: Music for Meditation. We’ll hear introspective sounds from the Pacific Northwest and around the world. From the resonant gamelan ensembles of Indonesia to the hypnotic ragas of Hindustani classical music. Plus, a deep listening exercise from the mossy green depths of the Olympic Peninsula.
