Seattle Center Classical: A Day of Music, Discovery, and Community

June 16, 2026

Explore the full schedule, featured programs, and hands-on activities planned for Seattle Center Classical on July 5.

On July 5, Seattle Center Classical invites you to spend a summer afternoon surrounded by music, discovery, and community at Seattle Center’s International Fountain.

Whether you’re planning to settle onto the lawn for the entire day or simply stop by while exploring Seattle Center, the festival has been designed to encourage curiosity, connection, and unexpected musical discoveries. Against the backdrop of the Space Needle and International Fountain, audiences will encounter live performances, family activities, opportunities to participate, and some of Seattle’s leading arts organizations gathered together in one place.

From chamber music and opera to ballet and community singing, each hour offers a new experience and a new way to connect with music.

Where Music and Movement Meet

Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra

Seattle Center Classical begins at noon with musicians from Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra stepping into the spotlight.

Often heard from the orchestra pit, these artists help bring movement and storytelling to life on stage. Their opening program features music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Luciano Berio, Benjamin Britten, Philip Glass, and Joseph Haydn, performed by Michael JinSoo Lim and Jennifer Caine Provine, violin; Kayleigh Miller, viola; and Emily Hu, cello.

It’s a fitting opening to a day built around discovery, creativity, and the many ways music connects us.

Sharing the Stage

Seattle Chamber Music Society

At the heart of Seattle Center Classical is The Concert Truck, made possible through Seattle Chamber Music Society.

As part of SCMS’s summer community tour leading up to the Seattle Chamber Music Society Summer Festival, The Concert Truck becomes the festival stage throughout the afternoon, welcoming artists and audiences alike.

SCMS will present American Favorites during both of their festival appearances, featuring music by George Gershwin, Samuel Barber, and John Philip Sousa. Pianists Jeewon Park, Andrew Armstrong, and Susan Zhang will perform beloved works that celebrate the richness and variety of American musical traditions.

Seattle Center Classical is proud to be one stop on this community-focused musical journey.

Connecting Past and Present

Early Music Seattle

Some music never loses its ability to surprise us.

At 2:00 PM, Early Music Seattle invites audiences to experience one of the most beloved works in the cello repertoire: J. S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, performed by Wade Davis.

Hearing Bach’s timeless music in the open air of Seattle Center offers a reminder that great music continues to speak across centuries, connecting listeners through beauty, craftsmanship, and human expression.

Stories Beyond the Stage

Seattle Opera

Opera combines music, storytelling, and emotion in ways unlike any other art form.

Seattle Opera’s program brings together beloved selections from The Pirates of Penzance, La bohème, and Die Fledermaus, performed by Alexa Jarvis, Tess Altiveros, Martin Bakari, Ilya Silchukou, and pianist Elisabeth Ellis.

Whether you’re a longtime opera fan or experiencing these works for the first time, Seattle Opera’s performance offers an opportunity to encounter extraordinary voices and unforgettable stories in a welcoming outdoor setting.

Follow Your Curiosity

Seattle Symphony

One of the joys of Seattle Center Classical is the opportunity to discover something unexpected.

Seattle Symphony’s chamber musicians will perform Ruth Gipps’ Quintet for Oboe, Clarinet, and String Trio, showcasing a composer whose music continues to gain recognition among audiences and performers around the world.

Featuring Brittany Breeden, violin; Dan Stone, viola; Roberta Hansen Downey, cello; Dan Williams, oboe; and Jennifer Nelson, clarinet, this performance embodies the spirit of musical exploration that runs throughout the festival.

One Community, One Voice

Community Group Sing-Along Led by Greater Seattle Choral Consortium

Seattle Center Classical concludes with an invitation.

Rather than ending the day as audience members, visitors are encouraged to become part of the music themselves during the Community Group Sing-Along led by Greater Seattle Choral Consortium representative conductors Chris Vincent and Will Rand.

Together with singers from across the region, participants will perform Dona Nobis Pacem and How Can I Keep From Singing, transforming the International Fountain lawn into one collective musical voice.

Everyone is welcome to participate.

More to Explore Throughout the Day

Seattle Center Classical is about more than performances.

Throughout the afternoon, visitors will find opportunities to engage with music in hands-on and family-friendly ways across the festival grounds.

Planned activities include:

Designed for Discovery

Between performances, Classical KING hosts will guide audiences through the day with artist introductions, stories, musical connections, and festival highlights.

Whether you stay for a single performance or spend the entire afternoon on the lawn, Seattle Center Classical is designed to encourage exploration, curiosity, and discovery. Wander between activities. Meet local arts organizations. Introduce a friend to something new. Relax by the fountain and let the music become part of your summer afternoon.
