On-Air Highlights

Northwest Focus Live

Featured Guests: UW School of Music Piano Studio

We’re excited to welcome the next generation of virtuosic pianists to the Classical KING studios for this week’s Northwest Focus Live. Students of long-time UW Piano Professor Craig Sheppard will showcase their talents and highlight the importance of great music teachers. Tune in Friday at 7pm for an inspiring evening of piano mastery, only on Classical KING.


Classical KING’s Broadcast Concerts

Performance: Seattle Symphony: Carmina Burana

Things are heating up for the next Broadcast Concert on Classical KING! The Seattle Symphony presents Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, a thrilling celebration of love, excess, and indulgence. This performance, recorded in March 2023, features Xian Zhang, then a guest conductor, now announced as the next Music Director of the Seattle Symphony. Also on the program: Rossini’s William Tell Overture and Qigang Chen’s L’Éloignement (2003). Join host Dave Beck for this exciting concert broadcast, Friday, March 7 at 8pm.


Music Feature: Ravel’s 150th Birthday

Date: Friday, March 7, 2025, 9:30pm-12:00am

We’re throwing a late-night birthday party for Maurice Ravel, and you’re invited! Celebrate Ravel’s 150th with a special program featuring the Mother Goose Suite, both of his piano concertos, and more. The music plays on until midnight—so tune in, toast to Ravel, and enjoy some of the most beautiful sounds in classical music!


The Metropolitan Opera

The Ides of March and Other Prophecies

This Saturday on The Score, host Edmund Stone peers into the future with The Ides of March and Other Prophecies. Enjoy music from films where destinies are foretold, including The Tragedy of Macbeth, Dune, Alice in Wonderland, Arrival, and more.

Feeling Lucky? Contemporary Films from Ireland

Date: Sunday, March 9, 2025, 4:00pm

Join Edmund Stone as he salutes the film industry of Ireland. From The Problem with People to Mr. Malcolm’s List and Poor Things, enjoy music from diverse and dynamic films of the Emerald Isle.

This Love Between Us

In a world that can sometimes feel divided, composer Reena Esmail encourages us to listen with love. Her work This Love Between Us explores her multicultural heritage, blending Hindustani classical music with Western orchestral traditions. Each musician keeps one hand in their own musical tradition while reaching out to another. Tune in Saturday night at 9pm with host Maggie Molloy for a journey into Esmail’s powerful and evocative sound world.

Seattle Symphony: The Healing Heart of the First People of This Land

Seattle Symphony revisits Bruce Ruddell’s Healing Heart of the First People of This Land, a powerful work inspired by sacred Coast Salish songs entrusted to the composer by Upper Skagit elder Vi Hilbert.

Seattle Festival Orchestra: Echoes of the East

Date: Saturday, March 8, 2025, 2:00pm
Location: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

Experience the vibrant cultures of East Asia with the Seattle Festival Orchestra. Highlights include Bao Yuankai’s Symphony No. 2 – Musical Sketches of Taiwan, Holst’s Japanese Suite, and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, featuring rising local star Lin Tokura.

Saratoga Orchestra: Nature (Re)Awaken

Date: Saturday, March 8, 2025, 7:00pm
Location: South Whidbey High School Performing Arts Center, Langley, WA

A beautifully curated program celebrating the rhythms of nature, featuring works by Louise Farrenc, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and Antonín Dvořák, with commentary by Marta Zekan.
